This industrial apartment was designed in 2017 by Aida Šniraitė—owner of design studio Authentic Interior, located in Šnipiškės, an emerging neighborhood in Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania. Created for a single woman, the vision was an industrial and urban-American style aesthetic, yet with a limited budget. The overall design is characterized by black doors and plinths, original concrete ceilings and black furnishings—considered an unusual color scheme for conservative Lithuanians.
The interior of this monochromatic apartment consists of 538 square feet (50 square meters), characterized predominantly by materials of concrete, brick and metal. The apartment is separated into a living area of just 30 square meters, a spacious bathroom of six square meters and a bedroom of 14 square meters. The designer presented the homeowner with mood boards that were accepted and did not change throughout the design process.
The biggest part of the budget was invested into the bespoke furnishings—which includes two huge closets, bathroom storage, kitchen and living room furniture—along with high quality materials and construction. However, some of the furnishings, such as the sofa, lighting and the bed were budget-friendly selections. As it would be much easier to change out small furnishings than to have to re-paint the walls every couple of years.
Above: Faux bricks on the wall were crafted by talented Lithuanian artisans. There is no real wood in the apartment—most of the furnishings are made of high-quality, Italian HPL ( high pressure laminates). A shaggy rug and light grey floor composition was another client wish which found its place in this home.
What We Love: Various inviting and functional updates have been made throughout this industrial apartment, giving it an overall fresh, contemporary aesthetic. The floorplan layout is relatively simple, with an open plan main living space and private bedroom and bathroom zones. However, overall, for such a small space, this home is very comfortable and highly functional. Stylish furnishings and eye-catching materials creates a stunning visual presentation for the lucky homeowner.
Readers, please share with us your thoughts on the overall design for this apartment interior… please keep in mind, this is a new design firm who completed this project, so feedback would be much appreciated. Thanks!
Above: Outside, there is a spacious balcony to get inspired by local industrial architecture while sipping a drink in a comfy acapulco chair.
Above: When entering the apartment, raw imitation wood, black sleek lines, crisp white walls and concrete details invites you to see further. Since the client is a woman, the interior space was maximized for storage. This included a large mirrored closet to visually create the illusion of increased space, as well as reflecting natural light. Clever design solutions were also integrated, which includes a concealed ironing board in the closet.
Above: The main living space possesses a bar area, a dream of the client’s, so it found its place quite easily. Classic industrial bar stools matches perfectly with the light wood, concrete countertop and black facades.
Above: There was one modification to the original floorplans—the bedroom door was moved by one meter to incorporate a spacious closet on the left.
Above: The bedroom reflects a girlish charm, with a boudoir table and Hollywood lighting… every female client’s wish come true! The space is characterized by an original concrete ceiling and a decorated concrete accent wall, which compliments the subtly black matte Fenix wardrobe doors.
Above: The bathroom features concrete walls and flooring, accentuated by black dyed aluminium and a glass shower wall. A rounded mirror, perfectly enlightens against the concrete backdrop and makes it stand out.
